God is big on redundancy. If something is important for us to know in God’s Word it is repeated more than once; sometimes many times. Sometimes Scripture is repeated exactly in more than one book of the Bible. Often the same biblical message is repeated using different wording. If you review God’s commands from a list you can easily see what’s important to God. You cannot please God if you don’t obey his commands.
12. Do not be influenced by strange doctrines.
Hebrews 13:9 – Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
This is God telling you not to fall for any fake religions just in case you disobeyed God’s other commands to avoid arguments about the Bible, false science, foolish questions, and profane babblings. God is telling you twice so you have no excuse. God is making it clear you can’t be nourished spiritually with fake religions like Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Mormonism among others.
13. Do not be deceived by evil companions.
1 Corinthians 15:33 – Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
This is common sense we all instinctively know. You’re less likely to sin if you remove the temptation to sin by staying away from those who do sin. God repeats this command when he says to beware of evil men and to abstain from all appearances of evil (by hanging around those who do evil).
14. Do not be slothful.
Hebrews 6:12 – That you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Here God is saying not to be a lazy Christian. We are to content for the souls of the lost with vigor and do good works for the kingdom of God. In other Scriptures God also says men are not be lazy in worldly matters by not providing for themselves and their families.
15. Do not be weary in well-doing (2).
Galatians 6:9 – And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
2 Thessalonians 3:13 – But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good.
This is a rephrasing of the previous command from God to not be lazy. Hard work always requires discipline and willpower.
